Who We Are

The Friends of St Johns University are volunteers who believe in the strategic importance of the university for both Tanzania and East Africa. At the present time, our board consists of individuals with a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ:

  • The Rev. Larry Crowell (chair)— Former CEO of a large health care corporation in Pennsylvania, now an ordained minister serving in the US.
  • Scott Rigell— Owner/CEO in the automotive industry in the state of Virginia with a genuine interest in Tanzania’s future.
  • Drummond Ball—Principal of an elementary school in the state of Virginia.

  • Louis (Buzz) Galien- Distinguished Professor of Higher Education at Regent University and serves on the Vestry at Galilee Church. His research is centered around improving the conditions surrounding  African American college students.
  • Ben Fraser
  • The Rev. Julian Linnell Ph.D —a former university professor and missionary who currently serves as Executive Director of Anglican Frontier Missions based in Richmond, Virginia
  • O.E. Burke- Commercial real estate professional, who first visited Tanzania in early 2007 and uses his technological and business acumen to assist the university.
  • Bob Thornton (chair of finance)— Virginia businessman with extensive experience in the real estate industry and a passion for Africa.
